KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): In-flight caterer Brahim’s Food Services Sdn Bhd (BFS), which is 70% owned by Brahim’s Holdings Bhd (BHB) and 30% by Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), reported a profit in 2023 despite having its catering contract with MAB terminated late last year.

“Despite the challenges faced, including losing the Malaysia Airlines (MAB) business, BFS made a profit of about RM12 million for the financial year ending 2023,” BHB executive chairman Datuk Seri Ibrahim Ahmad said in a statement on June 28. The profit was reported during BHB’s annual general meeting that day.  

“This financial success underscores the resilience and robust business model of Brahim’s group of companies,” Ibrahim added.

On Aug 31 last year, after two decades of partnership, MAB decided to end its contract with BFS and instead work with multiple food and beverage companies to provide in-flight meals.

Nonetheless, BFS still runs the country’s biggest in-flight catering kitchen at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

According to the statement, BFS is the largest halal in-flight kitchen in the region and is the principal in-flight services provider for 35 international airlines. These include seven of the world’s top airlines, such as Qatar, Emirates, ANA All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, Turkish Airlines and EVA Air, which operate at both Kuala Lumpur and Penang International airports.

BFS runs a massive kitchen spanning almost 60,000 square metres. The facility, manned by 550 employees, operates around the clock, churning out up to 60,000 meals daily.
