Raja Teh Maimunah named as Bursa Malaysia's public interest director

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has named Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as its public interest director and independent non-executive director effective from July 1.

In a statement today, Bursa said Raja Teh, who also serves as  chief executive officer (CEO) of AEON Bank (M) Bhd, brings over 30 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry, spanning investment, wholesale, Islamic and digital banking.

"She also currently serves as a board nember of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and as a trustee of Amanah Warisan Negara.

"She previously held the positions of CEO of AmInvestment Bank and managing director of wholesale banking at AmBank Group.

"She had also served as the managing director and CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank Bhd and chief operating officer of digital innovation and transaction banking at Hong Leong Banking Group," it added.

Raja Teh also served as the global head of Islamic Markets at Bursa Malaysia between 2009 and 2011, where she led the establishment of Bursa Suq Al-Sila' and held senior positions at Kuwait Finance House Malaysia and Bank Alkhair Bahrain.

Earlier in her career, she was with RHB Investment as its head of investment Banking, spent nearly a decade at CIMB Investment Bank focusing on debt and equity origination and equity sales.

Bursa chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the exchange is delighted to welcome Raja Teh back. 

"Her familiarity with the exchange and the capital markets will be valuable.

"Raja Teh's experience in Islamic finance and digital banking will contribute immensely in our innovation and growth pursuits as a multi-asset exchange to build a robust, vibrant and inclusive Malaysian capital market," he said.
