KUALA LUMPUR: IHH Healthcare Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani N. Hassan Thani, 63, as its independent and non-executive chairman effective today.

Nik Norzrul is succeeding Tan Sri Mohammed Azlan Hashim, 67, who retired as the group's independent and non-executive chairman after the company's annual general meeting (AGM) on May 28, 2024.

IHH said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today that Nik Norzrul Thani is currently a consultant at the law firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co. His expertise includes providing legal advice on Islamic finance, banking, offshore finance, debt restructuring, and international, corporate and commercial law.

"Nik Norzrul Thani also oversees debt and corporate restructuring transactions and the issuance of private debt securities, encompassing Islamic financial instruments for both domestic and international clients," said the integrated healthcare provider.

According to IHH, Nik Norzrul Thani holds directorships in Malaysian Rating Corporation Bhd, Cagamas Holdings Bhd, Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd, MARC Ratings Bhd, Zico Trust (M) Bhd, SD Guthrie Bhd (formerly known as Sime Darby Plantation Bhd), T7 Global Bhd and Pertama Digital Bhd.
